It's Done!

My hopes for a lovely, spring-like May that were so quick to bubble up last Sunday with its sunshine have been dashed.  Rain and more rain.

The library has benefitted.  I spent extra time working on my clean up project for three hours yesterday. I'll put in another afternoon on Friday.  Areas of floor are visible now, and by the end of the time yesterday I was starting to think there may be an end in sight--at least for round one.

Ar home, I took out a large load of blankets and sheet sets that we no longer use but I had stored for "just in case we need them."  I looked for a an organization that was collecting bedding and blankets to send to Alabama tornado victims, but ended up taking the whole pile to the Salvation Army.  There are people being displaced right here in Vermont because of flooding as I was informed when I called the SA to inquire.  So they happily took what I had.

Finally, the wet and chilly weather has given me plenty of time to knit and I have finally finished my lace shawl.  I'll actuall get to use it with this dreary cold snap.

The funny thing about it is that I used a pattern from the book, One Skein Wonders.  This shawl took every single bit of two skeins of yarn--2000 meters instead of the 1000 specified--and--I knitted only 105 of the 162 rows called for.  Obviously, I did something wrong, but I have no idea what.  My finished dimensions were right and my gauge was not too off.  Oh, well, it fits me and I am happy with it.  I am mighty sick of knitting lace, though.

  8. If you did something wrong with the shawl,it sure isn't obvious. Beautiful color and should be worn with pride.
Good idea about the Salvation Army. My heart aches for Alabama but Arkansas needs my help also. SA will see that it goes where needed.

It's TIme

It's been a while since I have posted anything and even my reading your posts is falling by the wayside. I am in Florida now. I have a yard where little attention was spent on landscaping for the past years so I am slowly and (somewhat) methodically addressing that. I also volunteer to work at the pollinator garden and the edible garden I helped install at the UU grounds and I took over the volunteer job of cleaning out the overgrown community garden by my neighborhood mailboxes. The neighbor who was doing that got sick and could no longer attend to it. It's a bigger job than I'd thought at first -- not only overgrown with weeds, but the plants that are wanted there are in life and death competition for each others' spaces. And two walks a day, morning and evening, so Levi can keep up with addiction to canine social media and a daily rousing came of stick or ball midday take up another chunk of my time. I have a weekly meditation group that I co-facilitate, and my own ...

Life Goes On

There is nothing like a visit from the grand children to remind one that life goes on.  I spent Friday night at my daughter's and then brought the kids back home with me.  I did not get to see so much of them this past summer and it was a birthday gift to my daughter (who just turned 40!) to have a couple of days to herself. She probably spent them in her son's room playing Lego StarWars.  Dane tried to teach me how to play this video game--a hopeless task if ever there was one.  "Concentrate, Grandma!  You have to concentrate!"  I do have a hard time with sustained concentration lately, but in this case I had no clue what it was that needed concentration.  He finally took the controls away from me (thank-you!). It's amazing how long he can amuse himself at my house being out side on a scooter or helping me in the yard, especially if it involves a hose.  Inside, they both sit and draw or craft for hours.  Just before bed, Dane did say, "N...

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Okay, Linda Reeder .  Okay, Arkansas Patti .  Yours is NOT a club I wanted to join.  But I did anyway. Bike meets car; face meets pavement.  Olga meets EMTs, gets ride to ER, meets nurses, doctors and X-ray technicians, and friendly police officer who issues a citation for negligent bike riding.  Not pretty.  So very not pretty. Are you ready for this? Yes. I was wearing my helmet. Plenty of bruises and swellings, but no broken bones, no concussion.   I will take it easy for the next few days, but first order of business is to go out and purchase purple eye shadow.
