I noticed a while ago an explosion of DIY face masks on Pinterest.
Then I also started seeing warnings about masks maybe doing more harm than good. Frankly, much of that did not make all that much sense to me. I really don't see how they could do harm unless you didn't wash them conscientiously just like your hands and any other household surface.
This article kind of sums of my thinking and answers some of my questions:

It is an individual decision. We each need to take responsibility for our own health and safety.
If you don't respect another's decision, no need to shame or harrass -- stay away from them. Be kind, we are all under stress.

Yes, the home-made masks are so funny. I guess it gives someone something to do.
ReplyDeleteMasks don't prevent it, either, as our hands are the worst part of it. The droplets live a long time on surfaces. What a time...
My daughter gave David a mask, which she got from the hospital. Let's see if that helps. So far, he and I are asymptomatic.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed the article and agree completely. I do have a friend who has a compromised immune system and she always gets harrumphs and side eyes when she wears one. I wish everyone would for we don't have to be symptomatic to be contagious.
ReplyDeleteI've seen many making their own masks out of old material, which I think are rather charming in a doomy gloomy world. Yeah some people get all pissy about masks and gloves. I say, it's not hurting anyone is it?
ReplyDeleteI read this article on line after I had made my masks for my family. It convinced me that I had done a good thing, and that I will wear mine again when I go back to the grocery store on Thursday morning. Our masks, mine and Tom's, are washed and in a plastic bag waiting for their next use. As this goes on, I think more and more people will adopt wearing masks.
ReplyDeleteI just on Instagram a woman from the UK showing how to use your thong panties as a mask. I laughed but I saw how clever it was. My questions is how the hell did you first figure this out?
ReplyDeleteSome people are far more creative than I. And I wonder who thought thong panties were a good idea in the first place. Butt floss- eww!
ReplyDeleteFor one very important thing, if everyone would wear a mask, asymptomatic people would keep more of their virus to themselves. AND, it will keep our hands away from our faces.
