Annoying things

I woke up in the middle of the night last Friday with throbbing pain in my right ear.  It has not cleared up yet--although it does feel a bit less stuffed.  Honestly, I totally know why babies cry so insistently when they have an ear infection.  I wanted to howl a little myself.  I took ibuprofen instead.  And keep on taking it at night.

I remember having an ear infection as a kid.  It prevented my mother from attending a cousin's wedding with my father.  I cried hysterically for hours and kept demanding, "I want my daddy!" whenever my mom tried to comfort me.  Even at the time I knew I was being unreasonable, but, by golly, if I was going to be so miserable, others were going down with me.

Ever since then I just want to be left alone if I am really feeling sick--like with the flu or a stomach upset.  I did not feel sick like that with this ear thing.  It is just annoying.  Right now it itches.  Let me assure you, it is impossible to scratch the inside of your ear drum.

Another crisis has been averted.  I saw a couple of really large beetles around our property and was afraid that they were the dreaded Asiatic longhorn beetles.  After a little research, I now believe that they are .spotted sawyer beetles.  Our trees are not likely to be wiped out.  I am not fond of insects although I suppose they have their place.  They are mostly annoying.  Maybe there is actually an insect in my middle ear.

It sure feels like full on summer today.  We have had thunderstorms rolling through last night and this morning.  It has cleared now, but it is steamy and hot.  It's a good thing today's chores include grocery shopping--time in air conditioned space.  I keep a sweater in my car along with my cloth grocery bags for just such occasions.

The rain has encouraged the weeds in the garden. Our house needs a pressure washing badly. The carpet needs a shampoo.  The windows are due for a good wash. I better get on some of the day's chores before I am feeling completely overwhelmed.  Too much to do.  That is annoying in itself.

  2. Oh yes....the internal ear itch. It's enough to drive y'mad, isn't it?

I hope that it means you are decongesting. Maybe you should take a decongestant, now that I think of it.

  4. An itch you can't scratch is agony.

I'm guessing you got more thunderstorms again this evening.

  6. So sorry about your ear ache and especially that darn itching. I am just getting over tooth problems caused by sinus pressure. It took antibotics to finally get relief.
Perhaps you might want to check with a doctor.

  7. Ear and eye ailments seem so minor, but they can have such a huge impact on the way you feel. Hope you are better soon!

  10. I swear my earliest memory is of being in my crib with an ear ache and I couldn't tell anyone what was wrong. I suffered with them all through elementary school years. My mother would blow smoke into my ear -- the nicotine supposedly helped to numb the inner ear. I don't think it really worked but the warmth did feel good.

  11. Goodness honey I think an ear ache is just about the worse thing to suffer with along with the darn toothache.
I too can understand why babies cry so with their ear aches.
Hope your storms are over with and you can get some of your chores done.
    Just don't over do it.
This ole house sure needs a power washing too. I have put off doing way too long.
    Love
    Maggie

  13. Found this post from a reference at the bottom of your current post. Regarding the image:

Eeeeeewwwwwwww! Not since I have read about labiaplasty have I held my knees together and puckered everything so tightly. Automatic reaction!

This by the way prevented me from getting a vasectomy in my younger days. I can pucker everything so effectively that the objects of interest in such a procedure disappear.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
