Lazy Weekend

I feel as though I hibernated all weekend.  It was so cold I just could not force myself out the door at all on Saturday.  I spent the day in yoga pants, which is about like wearing pajamas all day.  I do notice that lots of people have no problem going about their public business in actual pajama pants.  Fortunately for the world and those who might run into me, I am not among them.

On Sunday we did go out for breakfast.  We have the habit of full breakfast on Sunday mornings.  It was nice to have a good breakfast (I had scrambled eggs with spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes with two slices of bacon on the side) and not have to clean up afterwards.  It is such a messy meal to cook, which is why toast or cereal works for me the rest of the week.  However, we did notice that the days of going out for a ten dollar breakfast are no more.

I read two books over the weekend--Nicholas Evans: The Lucky One and Tina Fey: Bossy Pants.  I'm not saying that I am proud of this accomplishment.  I'm just saying--it was a slothful weekend.

Oh, I did put together my new vacuum cleaner.  I didn't use it, but I put it together.  My mother used to have this thing about Sunday being a day of rest.  It annoyed me when I was working full time and weekends were the chance to do the housework, shopping, laundry, etc.  Now, I kind of like the concept.

I also worked a bit on writing.  I signed up for a short class at UVM to give myself a bit of a kick in the butt.  Margaret from the library writers' group insists that I need to kick Mike out of the shared office and stake it out as my writing space.  I don't really feel the need for that, but I do feel the need for my own laptop.  Somehow I believe that will give me the sense of my space with portability.  Our house isn't terribly large, but it is certainly enough space to get out of each other's way when needed.

I did not take the poetry workshop that is an annual event for National Poetry Month here at our library.  I knew I would miss too many sessions.  I will attend the reading tonight, though.

So I have cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen and made up a long grocery list to get the cupboards restocked after being away for three and a half months.  Today looks like it will be a bit more productive.  Maybe I needed a lazy weekend.

  2. I really don't like Sundays, the are boring. I also had to live with that 'day of rest' thing as long as my parents lived. I tried poetry classes twice. Believe me I am no poet and have no desire to be one.

  3. I hardly can tell the weekends from the week days since I retired, but I generally rest real well on Sunday because then I have an excuse.

Seriously, I must have my own office space. I tired to share a space with my husband for a number of years. It did not work well. I don't like to be interrupted when I am writing. I love having my own space.

  4. I love lazy days, sometimes I declare it pajama day, and stay in my jammies all day. We've worked hard all our lives and deserve a little R&R once in a while. Now, get busy!!

  6. I needed a slower Monday after a busy weekend. How nice to choose to have a lazy day when we want/need it.

  7. Great that you were able to finish 2 books! I can't ever complete even 1 in two days. I have a slow eye movement thing and read with great intensity. That tires me out but in a pleasant way.
Changes always require some adjustment. The air is different.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
