Beach TIme

It is time for me to be getting ready to close up the house and pack up for my return trip to Vermont.
But it was way too nice a day not to go to the beach.

Boca Grande

I was going back because I had a follow up appointment to my sinus procedure in Boston. On Friday, the doctor's office called and rescheduled me for June. Grr. I could have stayed longer had I known that before buying my ticket.

I suppose beaches all look the same -- sand, sky and water. Other beaches I visited this winter:
Nokomis Beach

Broward Beach, Venice

Perfect ending to a day at the beach:

  1. So, what do you do at the beach?

    1. I take long walks and pick up shells, although not nearly as many as I used to.
And I sit in the shade of my beach umbrella and read. Finishes How to Stop TIme by Matt Haig.

  2. I've been to Venice and Sarasota. Lovely. Of course, compared to the Texas beaches, I'd take any Florida beach. That doctor really did you wrong. But what can we do.

  3. My dream would be to live near the beach...with any luck that dream would come true.

It's a shame the appointment got changed.

  4. Tabor, I love the beach too... any beach, but the rockier and more deserted the better. Love walking on the beach, finding rocks and shells, and just being mesmerized by the water. I don't swim and definitely don't sun bathe.

  5. You are lucky you live near the shore. I was in Orlando in 1975 and in Miami in 2013. Very interesting and different from Hawaii.

  6. The beach and level terrain are the two things I miss the most about Florida--well that and family.
Shame the appointment change came after you had made plans.

  7. Hi Olga, I left some words for you in a comment on Jenn's blog. My husband did the same as yours, and was so precise in all maintenance and also kept records of hours, oil changes, tyre pressures etc. That is so totally normal, and it makes sure appliances keep running well. If you still have to use the ride on, just read the manual. I read ours a lot in case I ever had to use the ride on, but we sold it a while ago and have moved to a smaller section. Gone are the 3 acres with a lot of lawn and huge vege gardens.Beach photos, they warm my heart as we get nearer to winter down here. I heard somewhere in the South Island, minus 3 Celsius this morning. Greetings from Jean in New Zealand.

  8. I am a beach / water person. I never ever get tired of seeing beach photos. Especially Siesta Key. Lucky you. I was dealing with winter in spring in the north. (actually it had nothing on family drama!)

  9. I'm about ready for some sun, a beach would be a bonus!

  10. It's true that most beaches look the same. But ... we never get tired of them!

  11. Well, our Pacific Northwest beaches are different: wilder, colder, heavier surf, but still great places to spend time.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
