TV

I no longer have cable TV, at least not in Vermont. Basic cable is included in the association fee I pay on my place in Florida. I find things to watch on Netflix and recently I signed up for an Amazon prime video trial. I wanted to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel since I watched the first two episodes when I was at my friend Diane's house. There were 16 more episodes to watch and I managed to binge my way through.

I can get some of what is on regular TV on YouTube or other sites on my Roku. I get news on my computer. It beats paying over $200 to Comcast for hundreds of programs I would never watch. Comcast did try to convince me that paying just for WiFi was a bad deal over bundling. Hmm. Paying for a landline I don't use and programs I don't watch did not seem like all that much of a bargain to me.

BTW, dealing with Comcast when I am in Florida is a pain for the long lines if I have to go in, but the people are always polite and lovely and take care of whatever business I need taking care of in a building or over the phone.

Comcast in Vermont -- not so much. After Mike died I stood in line (before the fancy new showrooms) and then was sent home to get the death certificate (and my name was already on the account). What possible reason could I have had for lying about the death of my spouse to the Comcast people? I was trying to get the payment switched to the bank account in my name, not steal equipment. My dealings with them have not improved much since then. Nothing annoys me more than having to deal with VT Comcast. Perhaps it is my bad attitude? But I think I have reason for a bad attitude.

  1. Nothing annoys anyone like having to deal with Comcast/Xfinity cable.
I wrote a post several years ago called comcast sucks and I had someone from comcast reach out to me. Funny. Good for you for pulling the plug, I'm getting closer. Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel I think is just as good just a bit different as things are changing. Ben is fabulous to me.Love to hear what you think.

  2. I have relatives that work for Comcast. The employees are good people. The management is all about the money.

  3. We pay the big price for Comcast bundled services since we watch a lot of regular TV programming, and we still need a land line since our cell phone coverage is poor. There are lots of Comcast haters, but so far, other that the ridiculous price, we have been OK with them.

  5. I have read that Comcast is the most hated company in America. We had to go through that death certificate crap with my M I L's account. She just wanted to pay the bill and they suddenly after almost 20 years wouldn't accept her payment because the account was still in my F I L's name. She was just trying to pay a cable TV bill for crying out loud, not make a wire transfer of funds from a Swiss numbered bank account.

  6. We got rid of cable when the bill got sky high. We do now have Hulu, Netflix, and Acorn (my favorite with all the British, Australian, and New Zealand shows). Haven't seen "The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel" yet... but have heard it was good.

  7. Luckily I have no access to Comcast. I use satellite (Direct TV) and use the local phone co. for my Internet. So far no real problems.

  8. We had Comcast cable and phone discontinued last spring. We do not miss either. We still have them for Internet because they're the only provider of high-speed in town. What a racket! When we travel we never even turn on the tv. We do have an Apple Box so we can stream some shows that we like. Programming for tv has gone from bad to worse in my opinion. Even my grandkids aren't interested in it!

People, divorcing, tend to be angry and might take it out on others... that's why!

  10. We have limited companies in Hawaii. I think the major companies are Hawaiiantel and Spectrum which used to be Oceanic. We use Hawaiiantel which has been good... so far, but rates keep going up.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
