Eye Doctor

I had my annual check up with my ophthalmologist this morning

I thought I knew the drill.  read the chart, number one or number two?, obnoxious drops to dilate the eyes, annoying touching of my eye balls and then the pronouncement, "your eyes are healthy and cataract surgery is a long way off -- see you next year."

But DAMN!  There are consequences of turning 70 in spite of my denial efforts.  So cataract surgery is not critical, but it is an option.  Also there has been a huge change in my cup measurement, whatever that is, and I have to go for more tests next month.

Well, I did not care for this news at all.  "You are not following the script!" My doctor told me to stop being such a drama queen.  I told him that if I had any thing that might require having needles put in my eye, I was seriously going to consider suicide.  Is that being a drama queen?  Well, guilty then.

  1. Oh jeez, I hope all that jibberish talk doesn’t lead to anything bad. We like to keep our peepers healthy. They’re the only two we have.

  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cup-to-disc_ratio I Googled "cup measurement in eyes" and, yep, it is an indicator. Looks like you will need to be paying more attention to your eyes now. Sorry about the not-so-great-news, but at least your eye doc is on top of it all.

  3. Dang. Something else to go wrong. Never heard of this cup thing and I hope I don't hear about it when I get my next check up

  4. well that was sucky news. But the good news is after cataract surgery all my friends no longer need to wear glass and have 20/20 vision. When you said a difference in cup measurements my sick mind went to your breasts and your cup size. That change would be better than this one. Stick to the doc - you don't want a "Betty" :-)

  5. Nope, he's not following the script! But it's still good of you to get these things checked, and I hope all gets taken care of.
I'm with Margaret on the cup measurements... didn't know there were others to be concerned about.

  6. Better to be ahead of the changes so they can be corrected. I'm almost like you about things going in my eye though.
Think I'll go check Linda's link about the cup. Got me curious.

  7. Well, at least you have a sense of humor. As they say, Grin and bear it. Joke or you'll choke.

  8. I'm the same way about my eyes. EXACTLY the same way.

  9. Must confess a bit of that cup measurement confusion myself. Anyhow, I fail to see how being concerned about your eyes qualifies you as a drama queen. I hope all proves to be fine.

  10. Am sure it’s discouraging eyes aren’t perfect, but could be much worse I’m sure you know after you pause and take a deep breath. Ive always been extremely sensitive to any possible eye issues, too. Just had my annual eye dr. visit — just want to keep on seeing, whatever it takes. So far, so good, but not without issues.

    1. You are right, of course. I am grateful for the good health I have enjoyed so far and I do value the ability to see beyond measure.

  11. Cataract surgery is survivable, not much fun but do-able.
And once you've had it done, you won't believe just how much better everything looks.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
