Spring Cleaning

The housework can wait.  I am going to do some spring cleaning of my diet.  I think I would feel better -- like lower blood pressure -- if I lost about ten pounds.

I think I eat a fairly health conscious diet.  I don't generally deprive myself, but I stay aware of salt and sugar and fried food.  My down fall is bread and pasta.  I suspect my stomach doesn't play well with dairy, but I may have convinced myself of that without real proof.

Anyway, in spite of trying to eat right I have been suffering from GERD lately.  I blame it on Trump, of course.  Well, it did start on election day, 2016.

I've tried willy nilly to eliminate things and see if that has any effect, but not wanting to find out I should eliminate cheese or gluten. That makes me quite sad.  I give in to the temptation to believe what I want to believe.  I think I have things under control and then I spend a night feeling as though I swallowed battery acid.  That is not fun.

So I am going to do an elimination diet with the help of a nutritionist.  First step is to cleanse the liver.  So lemon water, lots of leafy greens, beets and other colorful vegetables, fruits (that'll be apples and berries for me, and lots more water.  After a week, we will start the slow process of adding back and testing reactions.

I figure I will either be really, really crabby or I will feel a lot better.Related image

  2. Can you be crabby and feel better too? I think that might happen if I followed this routine. Please keep us posted on how it goes.

  3. I should do that too but I just haven't got the inner strength. I'll be curious to hear what you find out. Hopefully, if anything, it will be something easy to give up.

  4. Bread, pasta, and cheese! The staff of life. Maybe emigrate to Canada to eliminate any ill effects of orange influences.

  6. "feel better or really crabby" for me it's both. I did the elimination diet and while at first it is difficult it is so helpful. Good luck!!

  7. Your photo of vegetables looks like everything that is in Weight Watchers Cabbage soup. I make a huge batch every once in a while and am currently living on it. I love it which is a big plus because many do not care for it. I have already lost several pounds which is the main motive.

  8. Good luck with the diet. I have GERD, too, and stay away from alcohol and citrus drinks. I also take Zantac, prescribed by my gastroenterologist. I had an endoscopy done a few years ago, but the doctor did not find any ulcers, thank goodness.

  9. Are you sure it's GERD? My husband was thinking he had really bad GERD, and it was actually angina from a 99% blocked left anterior descending artery. It's amazing how well the angina could mimic GERD. We live and learn.

  10. Yes, it is GERD and I, too, have Zantac, but I really want to not have to take a medication if I can control things with diet choices. I am stubborn that way.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
