Packaging

I made a trip to my neighborhood Lowe's yesterday.   I bought a magnet for my door so I could hang a wreath,  a new drain cover for the garbage disposal and a new toilet flap and chain.

All three items packaged in paper and plastic.

The magnet had plastic glued onto a cardboard backing.  I peeled the plastic part off and then still had to poke through the paper backing to get the magnet out.

The stopper was the worst!  The plastic was tightly glued between two cardboard pieces.  I couldn't pry the two layers apart and ended up having to use scissors and then pry.
This package was so easy!  See the holes in the cardboard.  The plastic on front and back of this had little male and female nubs.  One pull and the flap and chain came right out.  (I installed it already.)

Why can't all packages be easy open?  Probably to keep theft down?

Speaking of packaging, I bought this yogurt (not at Lowe's though) expressly for the packaging.

French style yogurt that comes in a glass cup.  The label peels off easily and I am going to use the glass cups for tea lights because they are just so darn cute.

So the question is: Does Olga have enough to do or is she just writing boredom blog posts?

  1. I hate the plastic around these types of items. I ended up cutting myself pretty badly a few weeks ago trying to open a plastic item just like this stopper. I tried and tried to open it. I had a hissy fit. I screamed at it. I threw it on the table. Then I tried to cut it open. WRONG! That left sharper edges and then I was bleeding all over. My husband said it was a comedy. I didn't see the humor at that moment I must say. I am so pathetic I buy things some times just because they are easy opening. :-)

  2. Kids toys are the worst! They are a nightmare ot open. I'd like to see less packaging - not more. I hate those plastic protectors on salad dressing that you must try to pry up. I always end up cutting them with a knife. Dangerous.

  3. THe packaging of many items is over kill and ticks me off as well. I eat tons of yogurt and that packaging results in a useful replacement to Tupperware.

  4. You are only bored if you feel bored, and I can't answer that. However, I think many of us have issues with packaging.

  5. Hahaha. Things like products I can't open really get to me too. Recently during my awful cold I couldn't get the individual pills out of the packets. I know they are secure for safety reasons but give me a break - when a grown woman can't open the packet then it's too darn secure.

  6. As soon as I see that type of packaging I get out the scissors.

  7. Some packaging can be very difficult, but I like that glass cup.

  8. You would think that businesses would get the message that less packaging is better. I guess they assume we all have access to recycling.

Love the little yoghurt cups. They will make nice holders for tea light candles.

I never say I'm bored....when I do, all h*ll breaks loose in my life. :)

  9. Nope, not boring. We're all in this life together, you know, and the darn packing is a universal annoyance.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
