Wanna Know a Secret?

If you spend much time on the computer cruising the internet...it's an actual addiction...you have no doubt noticed all kinds of tempting promises.  The secret to younger looking, skin, the secret to a flat stomach, the secret to getting out of debt.

I see a lot of "the secrets to a clean house" and "the secret habits of those who always have a tidy home."

The big secrets for a clean home include making the bed each morning, hanging up clothes and putting away shoes, always putting things right back where they belong, cleaning the kitchen each night, dealing with mail/paper each day, and wiping up even the smallest little mess immediately.

Big secrets, huh.  Wish I was the genius who wrote all that.

If you want a clean house, clean every day.  Real Simple (which is where these tips came from).

  1. I guess I don't really want a clean house. :-)

  2. I just want to be able to make it through the hallway and find my car keys when I need them...so far, so good.

  3. We do most of those things. Paperwork doesn't always get organized immediately, and there are some shoes lying around.

The missing part is what to do when new stuff enters the premises.

  4. Most of us know "the secret"... just slack off on occasion. Picking up the den and doing the dishes before going to bed is an easy thing. But there are some days that after cooking supper in the evening, I just want to leave the clean-up until morning.

  5. Mine is the best rule of a clean house...hire a housekeeper:-)

  6. Another secret....don't live with my daughter. We don't call her Hurricane D for nothing.

Lately she's been spending a lot of time at her b/f's house so mine looks reasonably tidy. :)

  7. I have been spending way too much time on the internet reading about politics. Look what I was missing! But then I already do all that stuff, or Tom does. We are neat freaks.

    1. I watched Obama's farewell speech and Michelle Obama's guest stint on Jimmy Fallon and have now stopped watching news in preparation for a full day of mourning on 1/20.

  8. Too many secrets lol.
I have to keep order in our house but I do get a bit of help from others like Buddy and my bi monthly cleabing aids who make what I no longer see more spotless

  9. I do all those things and still don't have a technically clean house. It is that dratted vacuuming, mopping, and dusting that I only do once a week or so to get the pet hair that keeps me out of the clean house club. Sigh. Love the housekeeper idea. Come on lotto.

  10. I always fall back to the inscription on one of B's pillows: "Yes, the house is clean. I swept it with a glance."

  11. Hi! I think they have to teach the younger generations some common sense. That seems to be lacking in their thinking these days, where we all learned it growing up! Came over from Tabors blog.

  12. Yes, I read all to many of those. Like there is some magic solution out there I don't know about to keep my kitchen and my teeth sparkling clean.

  14. Yes, these are all called "click-bait" and they make money from the number of clicks. I do not click on anything that says "secret"

  15. I really like the idea of hiring someone!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
