Stoppable

Well, this was a new one for me.  I just saw an add for a product that you throw in the dryer to extend the smell of detergent/fabric softener for up to twelve weeks.

Obviously. I am missing something.  That would be a good thing because...???

I mean I get that it is a good thing for the manufacturer of such an item and the ads want us to feel insecure about the smell of something we may have laundered and then put on a shelf for a week so that we will run out and add the cost of the product to our laundry day budgets.  But is this something that is really needed?

And what's it made of?  What will we be inhaling when we take a towel out of the linen  closet after two or three weeks and have that orgasmic sniff fest?

Just wondering.

  1. I love this post. Exactly! Why? I use the least scented products I can find. I don't need my clothes to smell like anything.

  2. This is just crazy to think that such a product even needs to be developed. I do not use scented products for laundry because of skin allergies and allergies to many scents. Given what a poor job of getting things clean these days with HE appliances, I think that many people might actually think long lasting scents in laundry would be a good thing. Give me the days of bringing in sheets and towels of the clothesline. Now that was a good scent!

  4. I agree with you. We don't use dryer sheets at all because our clothes are hung out in the sunshine. Life in Hawaii....

  5. I am rather sensitive to fragrances. There are certain brands of these things that can wipe out a city block with a sickening smell when they are being used. So will two city blocks be gagged out with this product? Shouldn't clean be odor free?

I have come to associate the smell of Febreze with poorly cleaned hotels and filthy rental cars. Like the woman in the commercial tells her teen age son, clean that smelly room with Febreze.

  6. No scents for me, thank you. Sometimes in summer, I'll pass people heavily scented on the trail and think, "Bear bait!"

  7. I have a friend who is super sensitive about fragrances so those of us in her circle do our best to be scentless.

  8. I just want my clothes, sheets, and towels to smell clean. I do not need added perfumes!!

  9. I though dryer sheets were to stop static cling?

  10. Couldn't agree more! I am not crazy about the scent they add already - I don't want more of it and I don't want it to last longer!

  11. No long lingering scents wanted at my place. The best is still clothing dried out is the sun and smells like fresh air . We are being duped by all the scents to make our brains fuzzy and unwell after time. Maybe that the point??

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
