I was listening to an interview of Claudia Hammond, author of Time Warped, on Public Radio this past Saturday. One of the questions was, "Why does time speed up so much as we age?"
Of course, time does not change but our perception of time passing certainly can vary. I had just recently mentioned how fast the year 2015.
At the same time, I try to think back to January of 2015, and it seems like ages and ages ago.

ReplyDeleteI think time slows when we are looking forward to something. Christmas as a child took forever to get here. Sixteen and a drivers license was turtle like. Twenty one and the freedoms of adult hood took sooo long. Then, the older we get and the more goals we have all ready reached, we start plodding along not really paying attention. Kind of like when you drive the same route over and over, it seems to get shorter. That is my theory anyway though I much prefer your full life version.

ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that the reason that time passes so slowly for children and so quick for old people is that we process time as a fraction of our total life. To a 5 year old, Christmas to Christmas is 20% of their lives to an octogenarian it is 1.25%.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about that one, but I am pretty sure that you could attain immortality if you could find a dentist that would perform a root canal forever. I am convinced that dentist offices are some sort of gravitational wells that stretch the time space continuum.
Time seems to lag when you have nothing to do.

ReplyDeleteTime really does play tricks on your mind. While I can almost understand how "I" got this old I have no idea how Jenna got so old or how Amara got to be almost 12??
