Busy Bee

Today was a busy day.  I had to go get the blood work done that I was supposed to get done before my annual wellness visit.  I had to be on fasting so I wanted to go as early as humanly possible even though I am hardly an early bird by nature.
I got there in a timely manner and went right in to provide my three vials of blood.  It took a couple pricks, but I managed to not faint.

I was a bit distressed that when I went into the bathroom the sink was covered with plastic and the toilet tank was wrapped in caution tape.  This is exactly the condition it was in from last year.  I decided I would definitely look for an alternative lab next year.

I rushed home to get my coffee started, noting as I left that the waiting room was now standing room only.

I signed up for a class at a local quilt shop.  I signed up a few days ago and the shop owner said, "Oh, I went to high school with an Olga. Olga XXXX."  Today she told me that the next day she had a friend request from Olga XXXX, now in
California, on Facebook--had not heard from her since high school, which had to have been at least thirty years ago.  I said I was glad I could facilitate the reconnection!

We made these wallets--

Every one's was different of course.  It took almost three hours to complete, but we had to share cutting space and  one iron.   The picture is not so clear, but one side has credit card slots and the other side has a pocket for bills and a zippered compartment for change.

After that class, I rushed to the book discussion group I joined.  We are discussing a collection of essays on aging and spirituality.  It is a lively and engaging group.

I still need to fit in a little yoga time and maybe some writing time as well, but right now I think I maybe better concentrate on getting something to eat.

  2. Gracious, you are busy. That's wonderful. Never thought about healthcare when you live in two places. I can barely keep up with one healthcare team, let alone two. I've been missing my blogging friends so I started blogging again. lrth42blogspot.com, 'Two Fixer-Uppers-Uppers'

  6. My life was busy this past month with a mammogram, fasting blood draw and of course, that lovely colonoscopy I wrote about. Did you know any of the people in your book club before you joined?

  7. Was it a book of essays and if so would you provide the title? (If you thought they were good.) You are already involved in community - that's great. I like the red wallet! I like red purses because I am less likely to leave them behind!)

    1. The book is Landscapes of Aging and Spirituality, edited by Kathleen Montgomery. It is published by Unitarian-Universalist association so there is that slant to it. The group, for a heavily weighted to retired, educated, fairly well off white folks, does have some diverse perceptions on each essay though.

  8. Good for you. Sounds like you are really having fun. Quilting would be really interesting. I'm just afraid to start another hobby! Someone needs to open a recycle your hobby shop so when you retire one hobby your could exchange the tools and materials for the ones you need for the new hobby!

  10. Well that is one way to never have to clean a toilet.
You sure had a busy day and I really like that wallet and the color would make it easy to find.
I found joining clubs are a great way to make friends of a similar interest when you are new to an area.

  11. I've heard that when people retire, they often wonder how they managed to get everything done when they were working. You're definitely keeping yourself very busy.

Love the wallet, it's very pretty and one of a kind.

  13. Whew, hard to keep up with you, but definitely the answer if you find yourself on your own. I'm taking some tips, although I crave some female company myself at the moment, sure I will find some in this small town if I look hard enough.....

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
