Screened Calls

For the past several weeks I have been getting calls from two different numbers with the area code of 213.  Since I don't know anyone in Los Angeles who might need to call me, I have just been ignoring the calls.

The result of that has been an increase in the number of calls.

Three, four, even five calls every day.

I finally smartened up and learned how to block numbers.

There is never a message left from either of these numbers.  That would suggest more urgency to me than the frequency of calls.

Telemarketers must just hate the new phone technologies.

  1. So how do you block their calls? Do you submit the numbering calling? I get so many repeat calls these days.

    1. I have phone through Comcast. I dial #60 and follow prompts to enter the numbers. I don't know if that is how it always works. And I hope it does work although I am sure I will have to keep entering numbers.

  2. I have given up on the Do Not Call Registry as the telemarketers just seem to ignore it. Reporting them doesn't seem to do much good either. They just change phone numbers. I've been getting a lot of calls from 213, too. Probably the same ones. Anyone who really wants to get a hold of us will leave a message!

  3. I get all kinds of weird calls, too. I just press "Talk" and then "End" without ever speaking.

  5. Just today got an unidentified phone call (presumably a marketing call) from a 909 area code, which it says is from Calif. What's going on out there?!?

  6. I did not know about call blocking but will find out if I can use that on USCellular. Meanwhile I just ignore the calls. If I don't know the number and they don't leave a message it's of no concern to me. Sometimes you can google the phone number and you will find it is a often used telemarketing phone number.

  7. I must not be in anyone's demographic for I get very few marketing calls and I immediately hang up on those few I get. Pretty sure my reputation as an ill-mannered witch has spread.

  8. My toe learned once that running to answer the phone hurts.

  9. This is why we gave up our landline about 5 years ago and haven't missed it.

  10. Well I won't have to worry about telemarketers soon. I have been notified that Federal Marshals are on their way to pick me up for IRS infractions. I have been patiently waiting my arrest now for over a month. I guess there must be a lot of cases.

My experience is that if you answer these calls, that sets up a flurry more. I have read that some of these strange calls are robo calls just to seek out who does answer their phone. Those lists are then sold to telemarketers. I do not answer the phone any longer unless I recognize the number.

What I don't understand is how can this be profitable. Who buys anything from a telemarketer? Why are they not starving?

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
