Night Life.

I went out to a movie on Friday night with a friend.

It was a 7:30 p.m. movie.  I didn't even get home until 10:00.  This is so exciting for someone who has been fighting the urge--and not always winning--to be in pajamas as soon as it is dark.  Dark dark happens at around 4 p.m. around here at this time of year.

Not only that, on Thursday I went to a gallery opening in downtown Burlington.  I went with friends and afterward we went out for something to eat.  I didn't get home until 9:30 that night.  And I dressed up to go out!

Two nights in a row!  Out past dark!  I might be turning into a party animal.

The movie was St. Vincent.  I enjoyed it, thought it was quite touching in a way.

The little kid actor is not in the poster, but he was really the star.

The gallery show was well attended.  I have mentioned the local artist, Dianne
Shullenberger, and her work before.  She made her recent, realistic pictures out of fabric bits and a sewing machine.  It was being with good friends that made the evening though.

  1. I have to admit last night we planned to go out, but rain spoiled it for me. Put on those PJs, wrapped a blanket around me and stayed warm and dry!

  2. Goodness, you are becoming a party animal. You go girl.
I too tend to normally enjoy my entertainment in the daylight. A night out might be fun. You have me thinking now.

  3. I SO hear you about Dark=Pajama time! It would take quite a lot to get me out of the house after sunset. The exception was Thanksgiving day, when our reservation was for 6PM. I felt so wild and crazy, heading OUT when it was already dark!

  4. I would go out more...but there is not much night life here except fund raising small talk parties which I hate.

  5. It is good just to get out with friends! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I"m the same way about this time of year, it gets dark so early I don't want to go anywhere or do anything after 4 pm!

  6. I like walking at night inside our gated RV community. It's clear here in Arizona and the sky is pretty.

However, I have lost my glasses somewhere in the last 24 hours, so I really need someone to guide me!

    1. I love walking at night if I feel safe in a place where I can do so.

  7. I don't like to drive at night, so that pretty much leaves me out (although, like you, last night was the exception. We stayed out to 9 p.m.). Anyway, that's one reason why I like summer better than winter .. the days are longer. It makes life seem longer.

    1. Yes, the lights on Church Street were definitely a part of the evening.

  9. I usually go to bed by 8 pm, so staying out late at night isn't something I like to do. It's good that you have a social life, though.

  10. Compared to me, you are definitely a party animal, Olga. When I went downtown yesterday, I decided not to stay for the lighting of Breckenridge - didn't want to get home after dark! I liked seeing Burlington dressed for festivities.

  11. Both events sounds wonderful, especially since you spent the time with good friends. I have to admit I'm usually the first to leave...I have to be in my p.j's by 10.

    Lovely photo of Church Street!

  12. It happens rarely but when I get a feeling of the nightlife it rejuvenates me.

  13. Wow, Schullenberger's collages are amazing! So is Church Street. It sounds like you had several very nice evenings with your friends.

  14. Gosh! I haven't even heard of that movie. You can tell how out of it I've been. I've had a turbulent month. There's hardly any holiday at our house right now.

I'm so glad you're having such a wonderful time, Olga. That's so wonderful and gave me something to smile about.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
