Random

Do you do Pinterest?  It's a great use for any spare time you may have.  It will suck it all up like a virtual vacuum cleaner and then start to suck in the time designated for the important things in life--like checking your e-mail and catching up with blogging pals--or like going outside and participating in real life.

It's cheap entertainment.  Cheap entertainment can be a good thing.  I mean, it doesn't have to mean  that life is pathetic and sad.  Life is what we make of it, afterall.

This morning I came across a Pin: A list, 10 Random Acts of Kindness for the Christmas Season.  Can you make a list of random acts to perform?  This cracked me up.  I giggled about it all morning long.

I go for cheap entertainment and I am quite easily amused.

Speaking of being amused, I saw/heard this (Jesus Shaves) on Facebook -- not quite the compelling time vacuum as Pinterest, but I laughed until tears were flowing down my face.

Well, laughter has some identified health benefits.  So does dark chocolate.  I think I will just skip my exercise walk to sit here and watch Youtube videos and eat chocolate.  It's all part of my healthy lifestyle.

  1. I have never quite been able to figure out what to do with Pinterest. I have looked at it a couple of times but my heart was not pierced by a flaming pin.

    1. Aw, that is the explanation. My heart has been pierced by a flaming pin...or two...of a thousand...

  2. I know a lot of people who use, love and value Pinterest. I am not one of those people. I don't have an account because I can't keep the housework done as it is. I know it would suck me in. My daughter keeps telling me I must come over to the Dark Side. Not yet.

    1. Stay strong. You are wise...although you would find lots of fun things for Amara time.

  3. I AM a Pinterest addict, and as such, I am lured into it on an almost daily basis. I've made a few boards, and I get email reminders of ones I should check. Yes, I am a Pin Addict!
One of the funniest things I've read online recently is the one about parents trying to text and not knowing what the abbreviations stand for. I had tears rolling down my face! Such is my life! [sigh...]

    1. Not knowing the language is why I don't text much.

  4. Your plan will work for the short term. I don't do much with Pinterest. I forget about it. My granddaughter is so into it. She is only twelve, but she loves it. She made me a Christmas gift from something she saw on Pinterest. I thought that was really cute.

  5. I love Pinterest! As a kid catalogs were my favorite toys.... really, I poured over those catalogs daily furnishing my pretend house and clothing my pretend family. (remember the Sears Big Book and the Christmas Catalog, Montgomery Ward, Spiegel?) Pinterest is where I grow my pretend garden, keep my pretend turquoise jewelry and keep recipes I will probably never cook, but it entertains me and de-stresses me .... and something free that does those two things? Perfect! :)

  7. Pinterest makes me think of all those magazine recipes I cut our and never used or all those room designs and window treatment photos that sit somewhere. I think I have to avoid it.

  8. I have never done Pinterest, as I don't know how it works. But, I do notice people using it for certain food recipes on my blog. It's right there in my blog stats.

  9. I don't "pin". I don't need a another time sucking activity. I still have to have time to walk off my dark chocolate. :-)

  10. Haven't taken the plunge yet and haven't the foggiest how it works.. Probably as well, I have a hard time keeping up with blogging.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
