Mud Season Walk

Most Vermonters are celebrating spring, otherwise known as mud season.  People are happy to see the slush and mud because it means the temperatures have finally gotten above the freezing mark.  Tiny shoots promising crocus blooms and even day lilies can be seen huddled along sunny walls.   The ducks and geese up the road are happily splashing in the melting skating rinks that have covered so many lawns.  Robins are hopping around, poking through the mole hills and mouse trails that have wrecked those lawns not covered in water.

Personally, I have not been able to get warm since last Wednesday morning.  Here I am, ready to go out for my exercise walk:

  1. Oh my goodness! You left Florida too soon!

  2. When my parents used to return from wintering in Florida, they were the same way -- always cold. My dad said that his blood 'thinned' in the warmth, and it had to thicken in order for him to get warm.
We're feeling springlike today, and I am loving it!

  3. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow can keep you away from your assigned walk:) You are a good example because I would have just stayed in the house until I was acclimated to Vermont once again.

  4. It is a hard adjustment...but by the time you adjust it will be a nice warm spring up there.

  5. I would be freezing my tail off if I had to leave my sunny warm climate (even if today was a bit much) -- stay warm! It is going to take time to adjust and hopefully you will get lucky and they will have a heat wave soon!

  6. You look snaggy in your foul weather gear. We have crocus popping up now. I think they are overdue.

  7. I love your description of spring in your area. I would be bundling up too!

  8. Walking fast will warm you up and should last for at least a half hour when you get home. I was cold this winter too after my surgery and took to wearing extra layers. I'm trying to unlayer a bit now. We are in the sun today, rain tomorrow pattern.

  9. It's been nippy here in Hawaii, too. So chilly that I have had to shut some windows and wear a sweater. Hope it warms up for both of us. Lol.

  11. Oh Olga, I don't do well in the cold. However, after our Alaskan trip, I have learned to *layer*. But you seem to be made of sturdier stuff... and certainly adjust well. I admire that. When I'm really cold and can't seem to warm up, a hot shower and a cup of tea usually do the trick.

  12. Hey, it is true. You blood does seem to thin in Florida. It took me a while to adjust here. I have found an electric throw is a great aid.

  13. Enjoy your spring. It seems very dramatic.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
