The YMCA is less than a mile from my house.  It's a busy, busy place and parking is sometimes a problem.  It only makes sense to ride my bike there.   I was looking for a basket to attach to my bike.  I can strap my yoga mat to my back, but sometimes I want to take extra things like a towel and my wallet and my house keys.  I also thought carting books to and from the library would be easier in a basket than packed up on my back.

Then I remembered that I had some upholstery fabric samples.  I got out my sewing machine and made my own bike basket.

It works for me.

Of course I did purchase some material at the quilt show last weekend.  I am making a wall hanging, not a bed sized quilt.  My Florida bedroom furniture is oriental style.  I think this will look nice hanging on the bedroom wall.

The red material is for the backing.  I have not decided yet whether I will fold that around to the front for the binding as well or use another color for the binding.

I had this patio taken out and replaced with sod.  The patio was stuck at the back of the house with no entrance to it from the house.  It was just another weeding chore as far as I was concerned.  Right now it is a big watering chore, but I hope it will look better once the grass takes.  That reminds me, I need to take a quick run to Lowes and get some lawn fertilizer.

This is my effort to foil the rabbits in their attempts to eat up all my herbs.  It seems to be working very well.  Pasta with pesto for supper tonight.

I planted this mandevilla in front of the ugly garbage can enclosure that was exposed when I had the grapefruit tree taken out.  It will have white flowers with yellow centers.  It should grow enough to eventually soften up the yard.

I have a couple more projects to finish up in the yard.  Then I will have to leave it all behind and hope that mother nature stays kind to what I have done.

  1. You are very creative --- your bike "basket" is a wonderful idea and more protective for library books than a wire or wicker basket would have been. Glad to see you have your bike back and not afraid to get back on it.

  2. You are ingenious! I like that wall hanging. I'm always impressed by all you accomplish. I'm a loafer in comparison. Mike would be proud.

  6. Bike bag is definitely better than a basket! And I love Mandevilla... and that picture of the trail to the beach is wonderful. I had to enlarge it to get the real feel of it... so inviting.

  7. Love the bike bag and it does seem much more practical than my basket. I have to be careful that my keys don't fall through it. You don't have that problem! My problem with riding my bike to the gym wouldn't be getting there so much as riding home! You go girl!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
