Cards for the Season

I met with the card making group for lunch and a card exchange on Thursday.  I made a dozen of these:

and I came home with a variety of other cards.

We also made two cards with a lunch in between.  Fun.

I think my grand son will like the underpants reference so he will get this one for his birthday in February.

The 'get well' card...I hope not to have to use it.

Saturday--used to always be my day to sleep in when I was working.  It is a habit that I still have.  When I was working, though, it was also a major clean the house and run all the errands that needed running once I got up.  That part has changed.  It is such a luxury not to have to run errands on the same day that every one else is.  My house was clean; my laundry was done.  I spent the day making Christmas and holiday cards.  I almost forgot to go out and get the mail.

In the evening, I went with two friends to "Poetry, Music, and Delectable Delights," which is a series of events that another friend is promoting at an area art gallery.  It was an absolutely delightful time.

Now that I am home again, I am pouring myself a glass of wine (my weekend treat), turning out all the lights and sitting at the window to watch the night sky.

  1. Olga, How talented you are! I love the first one, the purple, but all of them are just so lovely. Anyone receiving your get well card will be happy to see it. The red one, that is my favorite. I am glad you had such a nice day and such a fun activity. Hope tomorrow is a nice day as well.

  3. I have never made handcrafted cars although it is a big thing here with the younger gals that I know. Yours are beautiful and will be treasured I am sure. I need to get a few boxes for keeping the precious cards that I receive. Your weekend sounds perfect.

    1. We are mostly retired women in this card group. Next month will be our Christmas party and cocktails are usually served so things get really giddy.

  4. Gorgeous cards, I especially like the cardinal card. I've never thought to make cards, I always buy them. Of course I'm not very creative!

I look forward to the time when I'm not rushing about on my days off trying to get everything accomplished ...while trying to get some rest in too! That day is coming, thank goodness.

  5. You sound very peaceful. That's a good thing. Being creative and spending time with friends is good medicine.
I know what you mean about Saturdays, and yet we still forget and end up down around the mall and the shopping congestion sometimes on weekends. And then I think, "why are we here now?!".

  6. Great cards! Do you use a die-cutting machine? If so, which one? As my only good hand weakens, I'm looking into the purchase of one. Enjoy your wine!

    1. I use a Big Shot cutting machine. It often requires two hands, though, so it might not be the one for you. Mike gave me an electronic one several years ago, but they did not seem to catch on. Let me know if you find something good.

  8. I like the Band Aids ... but I too hope you don't have to use the card. Yeah, isn't great to be able to do your errands when everyone else is at work, then sit home and read and write and relax on the weekends!

  9. When I think about making cards I feel like curling up in the fetal position. Lucky you, to have that talent!

  12. What a lovely activity!
When we both worked we hired a housekeeping service, as I loathed spending time Sunday (my traditional day) doing housework, when hubby worked such long hours.
I still try to clean Sunday afternoons. Too sick this week (Norovirus) and just taking it easy. The house is a mess and it's driving my nuts. Not a long drive!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
