Home Again

Home again, jiggety jog.

The flight back to Vermont was without a hitch...except for the rude shock of the 40 degree temperature difference.  I amused myself at the gate this morning by sorting the crowd into those who were getting off at JFK and those who would be heading on to Burlington, VT.  It wasn't all that challenging.  I am pretty sure I scored at least 99%.

My 83 year old neighbor in Florida treated me to a Saturday night fish fry supper--fish she caught, cleaned and fried up herself.  It was really good too.  Snow birds are just starting to filter back, but things were pretty quiet.  Of course, I don't think that you are ever going to see spring-break type, snow birds gone wild reality shows on your televisions even during the peak season.

I went to the Venice Sunshine Fiesta.  It featured a long parade of local school bands, antique cars, and a few businesses that had put together floats.  I bought a couple of craft items and had my palms read.  I will enjoy a long and healthy life!  Well, that's better than, "Sit down, honey,  while I call the ambulance." I am making fun, but it was actually kind of interesting.

I went to an interview with San, a Monk on the Go.  I liked his idea of a walking meditation while picking up litter on the beach.  I pick up litter, but I mumble mean things about the people who drop it.  I can learn to be a better person.

  1. I know all about that mumbling mean things about people, when our atv club has its annual ditch cleaning weekend. Let me know how to think positive thoughts about those who litter our shared spaces!!!

  3. Not sure I kept up with this one...since you ended on a Zen note of some kind. But you do sound flexible with all the changes. I also had fresh fried fish tonight, so we are kin in some universe.

  4. Lucky you. I hate it when people tell me I will die young. A woman in Germany looked at the lines on my wrist and predicted that I would die at age 50. Well, here I am, at age 67. Lol.

  5. I've had my cards read but not my palm. I think it's all very interesting, though I wonder if the "readers" are more reading me than the cards!

Glad you had a good trip. The weather has definitely turned here too. I leave for Jamaica in less than 4 weeks...looking forward to the heat and humidity!

    1. Have a fun trip. I have never been to Jamaica, but we used to go to Abaco in the Bahamas on week long winter vacations when we were working. Very relaxing.

  6. I had to catch up to see that you had gone to Florida, your first trip without your Mike. That was tough. Hopefully you will continue to find fun things to do when you return to your Florida house. And eventually you will walk on the beach and eat ice cream.

  8. Mumbling is important. One of my favorite expressions is "When in doubt, mumble." And it has to be better to mumble mean things rather than shout them out.

    1. You are so right. I can get myself in trouble sometimes by saying things out loud. But, actually, I am more inclined to speak up now and care less about what others may think. I don't expect everyone to agree with me...except for the littering thing.

  9. Well you at least got the important part right, you picked up litter. I'd have been mumbling right along with you.
I would have thought more would have been heading for Vt or have your leaves past peak? I think if pictures are accurate, that Vt usually has the best color in the States.

    1. The leaves are mostly on the ground now and it is raining. That will probably take care of anything still clinging to branches. I am waiting for wind to blow them all out of the yard.

  10. My opinion is that there would be far more efficacy in the people who litter becoming better people. I think you are good enough...if you get too good and no longer mumble the world will become a bit more mediocrely nice. To hell with that. Let those who cause the problems become better people.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
