Vermont Summer

Last Monday while driving home from the hospital, I took the interstate, I89.
Local people are pretty much aware that the eastbound lane is down to one lane going down French Hill as a large washout is being repaired.  Then there are the signs informing out-of-the-area folks (Flatlanders, as we like to call them) that the right hand lane is closed ahead.
So I noticed that a full half-mile before the anticipated lane closing, all the VT cars are single file in the left hand lane.  We have toodled up and down the eastern seaboard states many, many times and honestly never saw anything like that happen before.

I had to water my tomatoes yesterday for the first time since I planted.  It is supposed to be hot and humid for the beginning of the week.  So far the weather people have got it right.  But at least we are getting some welcome sunshine.

I have heard the thing about women not sweating, merely glowing.  I am glowing so much lately that I am afraid a passing satellite might report the suspicion of a nuclear plant meltdown near Jericho.

I managed to salvage some blooms from my garden.

Before

There was a program at the library this afternoon on flower arranging.  here are after shots:

The instructor did this one.

This is mine.

and I did the little herb bouquet.

Now I am back to the library to meet with the writers' group.  We have had a six week hiatus.  I am looking forward to being with this group again.  It is great to have the kind of support a group that really gels can provide.

  1. You wouldn't find drivers lined up in a single lane way before the lane closure here either. They just keep driving and expect to be let in at the last ten feet. Very annoying.

    1. I guess it says something about the pace of our lives...or maybe population density.

  3. I have so few flowers to arrange...actually that is not true, I just cannot get out early enough before the heat to cut them!

    1. That is the hardest part. i live in the country, but on a road that is busy enough to discourage me from being out in my yard in my pajamas. Although I don't know why I care--I have seen plenty of people in public places wearing pajamas.

  4. Lovely flower arrangements. I never bring in flowers or leaves from my yard because they are usually crawling with ants. Who needs ants on the dining table? Lol.

    1. I don't have indoor plants because of our travel between homes, so I really enjoy having the life flowers can bring into the home.

  6. I like your arrangements better than the "professional" ones. Yours have more color and more energy, I think.

  7. You must have seasons as we do -- winter and construction! The flowers are beautiful -- ours are in a slow-down pattern right now.

    1. Yeah, our roads are a real mess and they only got worse with the recent torrential rains.

  8. I like yours and the first one the best. Well done. Flowers really do brighten our homes and moods. I never seem to grow anything I can cut. Need to change that.

    1. It has taken me a number of years to get a garden going so that it looks like it is worth the tie and effort...at least briefly.

  9. I deal with the LA freeways so I don't even want to discuss traffic or drivers. But I will discuss your flowers -- how pretty especially the last bouquet! Now that would be a fun class to take.

    1. It was a very informal and relaxed little class. I enjoy getting together with a small group to learn something a bit creative.

  10. I think a flower arranging class would be fun! I checked my tomatoes in Denver today and one was partly dried up, though it is irrigated. Don't know what happened. I was bummed!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
