Pictures!

There!  I finally figured out the picture thing all by myself.
I have not been arrested, convicted, and sentenced to a chain gang.  I am looking for my real hair because I am pretty sure that my real hair does not have all that grey in it.  Stupid trick of the light!

I finished a small quilt this past week.  I am thinking that it is time to sign up for a class at a local quilt shop.  I want to how to do the fancy machine quilting. I don't see one of those huge set up programed to do the quilting from a computer program in my future.  Maybe if Mike agrees to give up the garage and turn it into a craft room.  Like that could happen!

I did sign up for an on-line Craftsy course in pants fitting.  I have altered blouse patterns on my own with some help from books and magazines, but I need more help for pants.  I have not done clothes sewing for a while now.   I so miss the ThreadNeedle shop and its fashion fabric selection.

I was able to get out and pick iris, peonies, and bleeding heart for a bouquet.  I had to dash out in a brief not-raining spell.  The iris and peonies were quite fleeting this year.  I had done a lot of dividing and replanting.  The bleeding heart was the only thing that took kindly to all that abuse.

  1. Your hair is beautiful. And those flowers will probably be fabulous next year!

  2. Yae! I'm glad you figured out the pictures. Your beautiful hair is not gray, it's lustrously silver. I love your quilt!

  4. I love your hair! My own has reached a stage where sometimes it looks the same ol' light brown and sometimes it's sparkly silver. At this point, I think I prefer the sparkly silver.

    1. My college room mate, who was gorgeous, had silver in her hair at 18. She was completely white by 30...and still looked gorgeous. I have not seen her in some time--she probably is gorgeous still.

  5. Silver hair is the best. Yours is nice and smooth and healthy looking. I used to do needlework, but doubt I will ever have the patience to return and do good work.

    1. I did needle work for a time when I was much younger and my eyes were stronger. No more counted cross-stitch for me.

  6. Someone mentioned my "white" hair the other day and I was taken aback. But i guess it is getting there, although I prefer "silver" myself. that sounds more like something I have earned.
I've just wrapped up my sewing activity for the summer. I'm hoping the sun I now see out the window will win over the persistent rain showers, and I'll spend the afternoon in the garden.

Your sewing projects are an inspiration. But isn't it just a little bit sad that your grand daughter is outgrowing her delight in those gorgeous little girl dresses?

  7. My hair is totally grey, but it is always a shock when I see it in the mirror. A friend keeps trying to convince me to dye it...but I just don't want to start a process I'll have to keep up.

I've been eyeing a corner of my basement for a craft area. Unfortunately it is pretty dark so it would need a lot of lighting. It will have to wait until I can find someone to finish the basement walls first though.

    The flowers are lovely, enjoy!

    1. A friend of mine has a "to die for" craft room in her attic. She and her husband built their dream house about ten years ago. But now she has so much difficulty going up and down stairs she can't use it so much. Another friend built her dream house 25 years ago. It's big, but they designed it so they could completely live on the first floor--put in the handicap-accessible baths and so forth. Some plan ahead and some do not.

  8. Love the flowers, and it's great that you're taking that online course. We have a beautiful quilt shop here, with tons of classes, but I guess it's too far for you! As for hair: so far I'm not gray, but I still have blond highlights added all the time. When the gray comes, no one will know the difference!
    Peace,

    1. I tried hair coloring a few times back in my working days. I just could not sustain the habit and it turned out looking reddish, which I could not get used to. Now my 12 year-old grand daughter colors her hair red. Takes after her mother wo had jet black hair in her high school graduation picture.

Love that top though one would have to be slender like you to pull it off.

    1. Ha! Will you accompany me to my next physical? Where my 92 pound doctor will remind me that she is still waiting for me to lose that extra ten pounds. I like the top for the fact that it hides flabby arms.

  10. I think your top and your hair look very attractive. My opinion, Mike is a lucky man.

Speaking of which I hope all his heath problems mentioned in an earlier post get resolved.

Good luck on that garage thing, but if I was a betting man...you have a better chance in the living room.

    1. We are calmer about the health situation now. It was bad timing--so soon after his brother's surgery and then his dying.
Funny you should mention the living room. There is a much better chance of claiming that, however slight it may be. However, (and this was before my time) Mike did once restore a motorcycle in his living room.
This house has the perfect garage for restoring motorcycles. But he has not done that in 15 years now so there is a lot of space wasted out there. It even has a storage room attached and a separate furnace and fuel tank. With a bit of work it would make a sewing/craft room...

  11. I cannot tell you the lost hours of my youth spent in fabric stores, and all of it because of my sister's sewing habit. It was painful to me. I shudder to think of it. I think your hair looks beautiful.

    1. I just went shopping for a new skirt recently and the prices for such simple cotton wear gave me a bit of pause. But fabric, thread, notions and patterns all add up--it really isn't so cheap. I just like to sew.

  14. Well, thanks for all the hair compliments. I have just tried a new (for me) product that I am absolutely in love with--DHC after bath hair treatment emulsion. It makes my hair shiny and soft AND no bed head in the morning. That's like a miracle.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
