&%#@! Computer

I wrote about my vacuum cleaner a while ago.  I contacted the Eureka company and the woman who spoke to me said it should be covered by the manufacturer's warranty and she told me of a repair shop nearby.  I took it there ten days ago and have not heard any thing since.  The man who took it did say it would take a few days to get to it and then a couple of weeks for the part(s) to come in so I guess I should remain patient.

Other things were on my mind for a while, but now it is about time to vacuum so I hope that I do hear something good and I hope I hear it soon.

In the meantime, the screen on my Dell laptop started fading, fading, fading.  I dropped that off at the computer repair place last Wednesday.  I have not heard from them.  The thing was two weeks past its warranty so I am kind of dreading the news from them.  I swear that when I had to have a new hard drive installed last February, they said the warranty would be extended by six months.  Apparently, I made that up because no one at the ever helpful Dell Support seemed to be aware of any such promise.

Ordinarily, I would see my brother-in-law (my sister's husband) and he would have the thing fixed in a matter of minutes.  They are going through a life crisis right now so I will not be bothering him.

Anyway, I do hope I hear something about the computer today.  Our desktop is ancient and Mike's laptop is ten years old.  I am being severly inconvienced here.

We are still getting quite a lot of rain.  I look out the window and see the weeds laughing at me.  I am getting plenty of reading done at least.

    1. The computer needs a new screen. I think that I will just get it back from the repair shop and wait until my BIL can fix it.

  2. I had a cousin who used to say, "If my vacuum is broken, I just don't wear my glasses. Then I can't see the dirt!" Hope the computer gets fixed soon -- I know how awful it is not to have it. Is that sunflower real? It's gorgeous!
    Peace,

    1. Yes, being near-sighted is a good thing when the vacuum is not available.
The sunflower was in my yard two summers ago--planted by a bird dropping a seed from the feeder on the deck above.

  3. That sunflower really is beautiful! I know if I had to be without my computer for very long -- my vacuum would get a lot more use and my house would be much cleaner! Hope you get both back soon.

    1. Although we do have two other computers, it is just not the same as having my own. The desktop is slow and noisey and it has no audio. Mike's laptop does not like google very much and it is a major task to read blogs and make comments because it goes back to search after each one. He has the sound turned off on that one too. And for some reason, they cannot both access the internet at the same time.

  4. I'm with the rest of the commentors...I'd be lost without my computer. I'd miss the vacuum...but not nearly as much!

    Awesome photo of the sunflower.

    2. I do feel like I am throwing good money after bad with the computer, but, you are right. I will try to focus on being grateful -- at least for a while.

    1. It culd have been a loose connection or a bad screen. Of course it was the bad screen. Whoops, I forgot to focus on gratitude. That didn't last very long.

  7. I am so sorry for your vacuum cleaner and computer problems, but especially the computer problem. That would drive me nuts. It always worries me when my computer starts to cough. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    2. After a few mishaps, we did have a great time and just returned on Sunday night... LATE. Now I'm jet-lagged. Trying to sort through photos now.

  8. I don't like waiting for things, and vacuum cleaners and computers are modern conveniences that I want to have on hand for when I need them. In the case of the computer, that is multiple times a day. So I feel your pain and annoyance.

    1. We have gotten spoiled by modern conveniences. I am reduced to doing my writing with paper and pencil!

  9. I hate when appliances revolt. Ten days is passage of enough time to give them a call and jog their memory and ask them the status. It might just be sitting on a shelf waiting for installation of the part when they get time!!

    1. I did stop at the computer place to hear the bad news. I figure that I will call about the vacuum but I could only handle so much bad news in one day. Although the vacuum should still be covered by the manufacturer.

  10. Good luck. I sometimes feel that it is better to buy a new one instead of fixing the old one.

    1. I am still torn. i know i will not spring for the $250 dollar repair, but i may see if i can get it fixed. There is a video on-line about changing the screen. how hard can it be? The part would cost around $50.

  11. As for the vacuum, I like Muffie's solution. I would think your new hard drive must be covered if not the whole computer. Hope you are back to normal soon.

    1. I really did not realize how much my day revolves around access to the computer. Maybe a forced break will be good for me.

  12. Now, I could do without the vacuum. That would be a good excuse not do that chore. On the other hand, I would be very frustrated by the repair not being done by now. The computer is another story. i would be frustrated beyond belief if my screen faded away. I know my laptop is getting old. My husband keeps bugging me to buy a new one. I think these things should last forever. Am I not being realistic?

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
