Making a List and Checking it Twice

It seems that a lot of people have been mentioning organization and getting things done.  I was reminded that I did a post on keeping myself organized and somewhat focused on what I need to accomplish some time ago.

I friend asked me if I had yet restocked my kitchen.  I have not entirely.  “But do you keep a list of what you need to have on hand?” she asked.  Of course I do.  It is in a pocket folder that hangs on the refrigerator (usually on the side).

It contains a grocery list based on the general aisles/categories in the supermarket, a basic pantry list of staples, a note pad to jot down things as I notice things getting low or as I plan meals, and a pencil.  And, yes, I have a duplicate folder for the house in Florida.

  1. So share a photo of your generic list if you will.

  2. I used to do the same thing!! (Back when I was the grocery shopper.) I used to keep old envelopes with the store's aisles, and then list my needed items in the proper space (of course, color coding made it that much more organized.) Then I put my coupons inside the envelope. Sooo easy.

  3. Wow, way too organized for me, and I am an organized person. I just have a running grocery list on the side of the refrigerator where ai write down what I need for the next time I shop. Of course the grocery store is only four blocks away.

  4. Wow! You really are organized and put me to shame. I just add what I need when I see them into my iPhone. :-) Then I forget to look at it when I'm at the store.

  5. As I age I find 'lists' very helpful. I keep a dry erase pad on my pantry door for things that I run out of and I keep a running list on my iPhone for my weekly menu and groceries. But I have about 2 dozen things listed also in my iPhone that I would never remember in my head; allergy meds, last time I had a specific test/flu shot, Voice mail password, student ID number, etc. You can even set up a reminder alert to take meds (luckily I don't take any meds...yet). But I do use it to make sure I remember to pick up my grandson from school on some days.

  6. My new goal is to only do grocery shopping once a month -- with one extra mid-month trip for milk, bread and some fresh fruit. Hoping it will keep me more organized and save on the grocery bill, too.

  7. It is always nice to be organized. I tend to be that way, myself. Every week, I have the week's menu for David to look at. I also have 3 lists -- Costco, Sack n Save, and Target. During the weekend, David takes those lists and shops. Works for us!

  8. P.S. I gave up on the clothes shopping list because I am getting rid of more clothes than I am buying right now.

  9. I am a definite person of lists! Just ask my kids on chore day! Ha Ha!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
