Getting back into the groove…

The first week we were home from Florida, I really felt at loose ends.  I had things to do around the house after more than three months away, but I didn’t feel energetic and I didn’t feel like I got much of anything worthwhile accomplished.

This second week has been a bit better—at least for me.  Mike has been down with a stomach bug that he cannot seem to shake off for much of the time.

I got back to the town library on Monday and Wednesday to do some of my volunteer tasks.  Also, the annual poetry workshop started there on Monday evening and our regular writers’ group met there on Tuesday evening.  So quite a bit of time spent at the library.

I went to lunch with my friend Ginnie on Tuesday.  We went to the Cobblestone Café in Burlington.  The draw was that they serve handmade pierogis.  We each had a plate of peirogis filled with mashed red bliss potatoes and a cheese blend served atop a bed of sauerkraut, topped with carmelized onions and a dab of sour cream.  Heaven.  We had a good chat besides.

Then I got to go to visit with my daughter and my darling grand children.  They got me out in the fresh air.  Although Friday was very windy, it was quite warm and it felt good to have some play time.

The pig popper was a great hit.DSCN2611You squeeze his tummy and the soft ball flies through the air.  It is no end of fun.

Saturday, I spent a couple of hours working on cleaning out a flower bed and playing pick up sticks, but the warm weather had disappeared.   I finally had to give up.

  1. What pleasant commentary! I am so glad we don't have icy weather here in Hawaii, though there is snow on top of the volcanos. I used to work at a library, so I know there is never ending work shelving books.

    1. That first picture was full color--which just happened to be black and white.

  2. A busy and productive week, Olga, no matter what the weather. Perhaps a late spring portends a fabulous summer. (I hope!)

  3. I was surprised how long it took me to get acclimatized to the Pacific Northwest after two months in Arizona. The continuing gray is so different from the sunshine. I had lots of things I wanted to do but didn't have the energy or the enthusiasm for much of it for a few weeks.

    1. I am a person who NEEDS the sun. That is very clear to me. I used to say that my health insurance should pay for a week's winter vacation in the Caribbean to save the cost of treatment for depression. They didn't see it that way, but honestly, they would have saved money.

  4. You have been very productive for just returning home. I bet it was hard to return to the lack of warmth, sunshine, flowers, and green. It will all flourish there soon.

    1. It was sunny today, but never got warmer than 45 degrees. Even the daffodils are reluctant to bloom this year and I have seen them in bloom and covered with snow. The thing is, when it is beautiful in Vermont, it is really, really beautiful. Makes you forget the week before. I guess it is kind of like child birth???

  6. They were very good--like Mom used to make. Mike is feeling better, finally. Thanks.

  7. I completely agree with your need for sunshine! I am the same way. I know in my heart I am much healthier living in California rather than Michigan. I hate those ugly black and white days. Hope most of them are behind you.

  8. What I noticed here was spring was very late in coming but now everything is racing to catch up. I love a cool spring and anymore we just seem to go from February to June.

  9. Here's hoping spring comes quickly! Hope hubby recovers quickly. Time with the grandchildren is always good!

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
