Say What?

Rape Statistics …  Sexual assault…it’s not about lust and desire, it’s a violent crime of POWER, CONTROL and DOMINANCE.  These are not pretty, but the consequences of rape can be even less so.

I really do not want to hear another word that comes out of Todd Akin’s mouth, but I would like to know exactly what it was he apologized for.

Surely, he did not mean by “legitimate rape” to imply that the crime is ever legally justified.

He meant “forcible rape”?  meaning where the victim vigorously fights back as opposed to passive acceptance in the hope of less injury? or worse yet, consents or somehow invites the rape?

God forbid, he meant legitimate in the sense of real or actual (actually how I interpreted what he said upon hearing it the first time) as opposed to those times when the victim falsely claims rape maybe  as the easiest way to get an abortion.

Really, I am so disgusted that this is the pole-star issue of the upcoming political convention.  I don’t think that the media—liberal or conservative—have  served the public well through this debacle.

I do think we should be looking pretty hard at our candidates though.  I’d say some have definite issues with power, control, and dominance.

  1. I'm disgusted as well. I can't imagine any woman in America supporting this Republican ticket.

  2. This is a very close ticket and some folks are buying into the ads out there fully.

  3. I'd say you are on the right track. Whatever he is apologizing for, it's because it raised such a stink, not because he truly doesn't believe what he said.
    Such arrogant ignorance is appalling.

  4. I heard a woman being interviewed the other day about the "issues" in this campaign. She has chosen her candidate, and said she didn't know what was true and didn't much care if what he said was true because she trusted him.
    Is it the media?
Or is the stupidity of the electorate?

  5. well said.
It is pretty scary, these men in suits with no understanding of what life is all about.
    Cheers from Cottage Country!

  6. I read about this while I was visiting down in New Orleans and had to read and re-read it... as my mind kept saying, "What??!!!"

(It was actually saying more than that... but I wouldn't print that here)

  7. The whole thing is appalling. I don't even know where to start either. But can we also acknowledge the profound and shameful ignorance of this man!

  8. "Legitimate rape" interesting choice of words. This foible and the Sandra Fluke ordeal is almost laughable until you realize that this is not some poorly written comedy script on SNL. These jokers want to run the country. When they succeed with their social agenda, what will be next to fire up the base?

I appreciate readers' comments so much. You don't even always have to agree with me.
