Trick or Treat

When kids came to my parents' door saying "trick or treat!" my dad would always say, "I'll take the treat."
Happy Halloween

The sun made an appearance today and I was happy to see its face. It wasn't sharing a whole lot of heat though.  I went out for a walk just a bit after noon and I noticed that my shadow was about six feet long as I traversed to the north with the sun behind me.  Coming south at the end of my loop, the sun was shining right in my eyes.  The wind was pretty bitter, but we have not had the dumps of snow that they have had in southern New England, so no complaints.  I was out and I was getting exercise and it felt good.

I was tempted to make the trip to Rutland, VT for the Halloween parade.  School bands from that county and area businesses submit floats and my son-in-law put together a float this year.  He has a roofing business.  Grandson Dane was apparently quite excited about Halloween this year and was greatly looking forward to being on the float with his vampire costume.  I'm betting it was too cute for words.

I didn't go--a 140 mile round trip--because I have to take Mike to the hospital tomorrow for his second cardioversion procedure--at 6 A.M. again.  We are really, really hoping that it takes this time.  Then he has to go back in the afternoon for a dermatology appointment.  He is happy that if they find any suspicious spots, they will not be able to do any cutting because of all the blood thinners.  He had to cancel a colonoscopy because of the blood thinners, too.  I am not quite so sure this a good thing, although I do completely understand the desire to avoid too many icky procedures in any given day.  He is distressed about all the new drugs all of a sudden and all the doctor visits--says getting old has become a full time job.

  1. Mike is right, one time in the dr's office, and it becomes a ritual. Hope all goes well with him.

  2. Good Luck for Mike's procedure and DR visit. Well, getting old is work, but it's better than the alternative.

  3. I will be thinking of you as Mike goes through these medical procedures and visits with the doctor.

  4. Aw, bless his heart. Mike is right, as we age, we pretty much have to schedule our lives around Dr. appointments but the fact that we are scheduling "lives" is a plus.

  5. Annoying interruptions to life, doctor visits. But then we get life, which is good.

  6. Aren't we lucky to live in the time we do? Doctors know so much more and have so much more technology today. But I still wouldn't enjoy as many visits as your Mike has.

  7. All the best. Having ill family members is very difficult. I have been working hard to help a family through hospice. The ill dad is in charge but shouldn't be at home. Poor adult son....

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
