I don't think we're in Florida anymore...

The morning's snow and sleet has changed to a steady rain.  The air is cold and damp.  I am planning on attending the library poetry workshop tonight.  It is a fantastic opportunity, led by a retired English professor and poet from the University of Vermont.  Still, it's cold and damp.  It's going to take some effort to get bundled up and force myself out of the warm and cozy house after supper.
I believe I was missing my sewing machine.  I spent a few hours yesterday making a shoe hanger for my closet and a jewelry pillow to hang on the door.
I didn't do any sewing all winter, but I did do some beading.

It's curious that I can arrive in Florida and have everything unpacked and put away within a matter of hours, but in my own home it has taken me two and a half days to get everything put away.
Well, I have to admit it's easier when you are dealing with an empty closet.  I did do some shopping in Florida--living the Florida lifestyle at Beall's.  That, of course, meant that I had to root through my home closet to find things to get rid of.
I am feeling that we really need to look into getting our own place in Florida.  Then I could just leave Florida clothes there and Vermont clothes here.  Even in the middle of summer, this is not a dress I would get away with wearing here in Vermont.  I bought three of them in tropical patterns.

Now I have to go pack up a large bag to take to Goodwill tomorrow.  I've found plenty of stuff that I haven't worn in a year and that doesn't even fit me any more.  Then I'm making a hot cup of Earl Grey and reading some poetry.

  1. Wow you have been busy. I like the things you made. I need to make something like that for my jewelry. Your dress is very cute.

You know, I think I'll make a cup of tea and read poetry also. What are you reading?

  2. I think you get energzied when you are away from home and then return. You see the place with new eyes and can clean house like a stranger would. I need to do that.

  3. Coming back north after Florida is . . . hard.
I applaud your industry in sewing things and putting things away.
I would be sitting in a corner oozing tears.

  4. If I could have a second home it would be in North Shore Lake Tahoe. Maybe when pigs fly.....

  5. You really zip things up fast whem you sew. I could dilly-dally around with those porjects for a week.
I hope the cold reality of being home isn't too depressing. Read cheerful, uplifting poetry.

  7. Yep, you need your own place in Florida.

We've had rain all day also. I'm sick of it.

  9. A second home in Florida would be nice but check the price they get for taxes and insurance. It is appallingly high. I have a friend who pays $10,000 a year for just those two items. I could pack and unpack a lot for that amount of money.
    Welcome home.

Updates

On September 29, I had the closing on my condo. Everything that was not going to the buyers was out and packed in the ABF moving truck which had by the been taken over to the storage units. Don thought it would take him until Wednesday to finish packing the truck with the help of his son. It took him until late Thursday with Chris' help and mine. Kevin was supposed to help load as well but he was in a mountain bike accident and wrecked his shoulder the week before. That added driving him to doctor appointments to my to do list and dong some shopping for him plus jobs around the house that might need two functioning upper limbs.  We stayed with Kevin on Friday night after the closing and then had a suite in an extended stay place for the coming week. This was the worst possible time to have to get a room because the prices balloon during leaf peeping season if you can even find a room at all. But it was close to the storage units where we were working and it was dog friendly. We ju

Wedding

Don and I drove to South Carolina to attend the wedding of my step-grandson, Will. Will Will and Katie The wedding took place on Dataw Island, a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in the country club. We stayed in a tiny cottage in the historic center of Beaufort, rented from Vrbo. Since the wedding was at 5 p.m., we had time to explore the area a bit. I really like the low country scenery and historical charm. Sitting quietly in the curtained gazebo I was visited by multiple cardinals. They came to visit the feeder, not me, but I can always pretend! How I will always remember Will!

Rest In Peace

In a summer that has been so wet, Sunday was a reprieve. The humidity dropped and the sun came out. It was a day that could have been special ordered by the family of a friend's husband. It was the day they had arranged his celebration of life ceremony set on the shore of Lake Champlain. I was not looking forward to the gathering, even couched as a celebration. This is a family fraught with relationship tensions. It turned out to be a beautiful day and a beautiful ceremony. A Catholic priest gave a brief but meaningful homily and two Air Force members played "Taps" and presented the American flag to my friend. I am not a Christian, but I do know about Christ Consciousness. That priest's word's filled me with such a sense of peace and love. I hope it did the same for the family members and neighbors who attended.
